Designer and Author of “The Break-up Cookbook”

Hello, I’m Nicole! Thank you for visiting my blog. I’m a cookbook author and designer from Minnesota. I received a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Minnesota and studied Broadcast Journalism at UCLA. I wrote the cookbook “The Break-up Cookbook: Recipes for Singles Who Aren’t Getting Any … Anymore” which was featured on the Fox News Channel, the Huffington Post, and several other blogs. I also sell housewares on my Etsy store, Nicole Porter.

What would people be surprised to learn about you?
Before I got my first writing job, I was working as background performer in Hollywood. I’ve been on plenty of television shows including “House”, “Scrubs”, and “ER.” My best job was probably when I was Queen Latifah’s body double for “Taxi” with Jimmy Fallon.

What do you like to do in your spare time?
I’m making an effort to become more fit and I spend a lot of time walking or jogging. I take long treks from my house all over Manhattan. I’ve been known to walk as much as 11 miles, but I try to keep it around seven. By doing that and changing my diet I’ve lost 60 lbs. since 2011.

What’s the worst thing you’ve ever done?
I’ve always been a big practical joker. When I was in grade school I told my younger brother that he’d get his period when he was older.

What would you say is your most annoying habit?
Any roommate I’ve ever had will say, “Nicole leaves the cupboards open.” But it’s not just the cupboards that I leave open, I have a tendency to leave the drawers open as well. It’s not that I do it on purpose, but when I’m planning a meal, I need to see everything before I start. I’d have to say that is hands down my most annoying habit and it doesn’t bother me in the least.
